PGI 2014 – GoPro Girandola

The 2014 Pyrotechnics Guild International Convention was held in Mason City, IA. We entered the GoPro Girandola into the Gerry Gits Challenge Competition. The theme for the competition was “Deep Purple”. You could enter any pyrotechnic device as long as it contained purple.

The bamboo frame was 36” and when the arms were attached, it was about 12’ wide. It took 30 drivers to lift everything. Both arms had two 1 ¼” x 6” tubes of purple smoke. There were also four orange smokes attached to the inside of the frame. The headings were additional purple smoke inserts, whistles and reports.

To make it even more interesting, we attached a GoPro Hero 3+ Black Edition camera to the girandola.  It was gyro stabilized to keep it from spinning along with the frame

We also had a flight of rockets that included purple and black smoke. There were also three 6″ shells that had purple and black smoke along with whistles and reports. We called our entry the Purple PORC Performance.
